Frequently Used Different Contact Lenses

There are lots of lenses being used nowadays. People are trying not to use the glasses and are searching for the alternatives. Young generations are very much interested to use contact lenses to replace their glasses, and of course they will try to get the smarter one. There are different types of lenses available in the market, with variety of colors which are known as colored contact lens or shortly as colored contacts.

Different contact lenses are described by different organizations. British contact lens association has classified the contact lens in two types. One is ‘Soft contact lenses’ and another one is ‘Gas permeable contact lenses’

Soft Contact Lenses

Soft contact lenses, also called hydrophilic or hydrogel lenses that are made of water containing plastic, are a newer type of lens. This type of lenses is made of flexible plastic, which allows oxygen to pass through so that oxygen can reach the cornea. They should be replaced on regular basis. Soft lenses have some disadvantages. This type of lenses does not correct all types of vision problems. They are usually described according to their replacement frequency. The replacement may be every day, every two weeks, every month, every three months, or every six months.

Gas Permeable Contact Lenses

Gas permeable contact lenses, also called rigid gas permeable lens, are available for longer period than the soft lenses. Among lots of advantages, important one is this type of lens takes very short time to adapt. They have excellent vision, have the ability to correct most of the vision problems. Gas permeable contact lenses also have some problems. They require consistent wear to maintain good adaptation and also have possibility to slip off more easily than other lenses.

FDA also has a classification of different contact lenses. Two of their classes are the same to those of British contact lens association, which are soft contact lenses and rigid gas permeable. They have added some extra classification also. Extended wear contact lenses, disposable contact lenses are added in their classification.

Extended Wear Contact Lenses

Extended wear contact lenses belong to the class of soft contact lenses. This type is available for overnight or continuous wear, ranging from 1 to 6 nights or up to thirty days. Continuous wear depend on lens type and user’s eye care professional’s advice. At least one night rest without lens is important for eye after each schedule removal. The disadvantage is they do not correct all vision problems.

Disposable

Disposable as defined by FDA means the lenses are used ones and then discarded. Every new pair of lenses is used for one day is the true daily wear disposable lens. They also belong to the category of soft contact lenses. Some frequent/planned replacement contact lenses are usually called disposable by sellers; as a mistake, they are not the true daily wear disposable lens. They have minimum risk of eye infection.

People are buying different contact lensesto get the optimum service and pleasure. People are using colored contactsin order to look good. To get the correct or good lenses, anybody must have to know about the lenses well or should discuss with the person who knows well about them.
